cast & crew take to San Diego Comic-Con to dish on zombies, changes in show runners and what's in store for Season Four

The cast and crew of ‘The Walking Dead’ dished on what to expect in Season four of the hit AMC Zombie series.

The cast and crew of fan favorite "The Walking Dead" gathered this past weekend for the San Diego Comic-con festivities andteased the New York Daily News with an inkling of what to expect in an explosive upcoming 4th season:

Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes)

On Rick's sanity level this upcoming season

He'll always be changed by the trauma of losing one of the most important reasons that drove him… to keep moving forward…but I think you'll meet him in a different place. For the sake of his children he's had to try and renounce leadership and try to subdue the brutality that's inside of him. He was so far lost last season that for the hope and the moral compass of the show I felt you couldn't lose him too far. What I've noticed in the first few scripts this season is how this world is psychologically changing these people. I never thought they would start the season the way they started it. And that's as much as I can say.

On acting through the moral changes Rick has gone through

As an actor it's fun. It's what keeps me wanting to come back every single season because it's not a static character or a static show. By definition the way you keep losing characters and moving locations and meeting new people… it's this ever-changing thing. It's organic and it is a pull and push within this character. There's a level of brutality and compassion in each character in the show and I think that's a really compelling area to explore and I think we do it really well on our show.

On the potential for a new romance for Rick

(Laughs) The fans have already decided Rick and Michonne are having an affair this season. But I think there should be a little bit more grieving time. I think it was too profound a death forhim to get back into the dating game just yet. But I may be wrong.

Executive Producer Gale Ann Hurd

On bringing back former cast members

There is no plan other than what makes sense for the characters. Lori came back because Rick was struggling with his grief and guilt. It wasn't because we wanted to have a ghost on the show or bring a character back. It was here's a guy that's dealing with his guilt and he's going crazy. We may bring people back but it's only in service of character. It's never 'wouldn't it be cool if…'

On new showrunner Scott Gimple taking reigns of show

W e are all a family and unlike other shows we promote from within. So it's not like we're bringing in someone from outside that's going to reconceive the show. Scott has written so many of the iconic episodes. The episode where Shane shot Otis. The '18 Miles Out' episode where Rick and Shane went head to head. This issue where Morgan comes back last season. He getsthe show. But even before he started writing the show he was a longtime fan of the comic book. It's a seamless transition. I know it must seem odd to everyone that's not in the show, but it actually is. It's so funny when you read the news reports about the 'shocking changes' behind the scenes, but the family is so close. I think it would be traumatic if we were bringing in someone from outside.
